A day with a reference to an obscure Bennett book is a day of joy. This particular obscure book has a piece of advice the column doesn't mention; you should seriously consider keeping a spirit stove and a pan of water in the bedroom to make that emergency cup of tea at 3 am as fast as possible (mind you, at the time of publication I suspect an Aga was the cutting edge of cooking techonology).

Cardamom in with the rhubarb in a rhubarb crumble most definitely works.

So does ground almond in the topping itself.

There is a beer festival at my local, with a small farmer's market in the beer garden. Clearly this is a sign, specifically a sign that I need to eat and drink too much.
