State of the Windowsill
May. 8th, 2010 04:26 pmOlive tree is in bloom - don't think I've seen olive flowers before, as I haven't been in the right bits of the Mediterranean in late spring. Small white flowers borne on upright spikes, dusty yellow pollen, smells lovely - very like lemon flowers but not as strong. Hopefully I'll get a few tiny olives which I can then use in tiny novelty martinis.
Fig trees are scaring me slightly: I repotted them about two months ago and they've put on 20 cm of new wood, plus vast quantities of foliage. Normal for fig trees, yes, but not really normal for a houseplant! No figs yet (they're only about 65 cm high, after all) - iirc new figs sprout in late summer, then stay overwinter before becoming edible, so we shall see.
Aphids on the peppermint and rosemary: I need to pick up insecticidal soap soon. Lots of seedlings to pot up, too: maybe tomorrow. Chili, basil, tomatillo and cucumber.
