Jan. 31st, 2009 02:37 pmWhy I like Foyles: a) because when I was wandering past their DIY section, they had a display which included "Build Your Own Fancy Coffin", and b) they had a copy of "Melusine" when Forbidden Planet didn't.
(Why, yes, I did read "The Virtu" before I read "Melusine". So?)
Also I should still not look at Springer-Verlag texts too long because you could easily spend absurd amounts of money that way. I still think a good book on Hilbert spaces is better than a purely linear algebra text - more motivation and less makework - but it's so very tempting.
