Dec. 21st, 2008 04:04 pmAm in Devon, have been cutting firewood for the solstice bonfire, and am mostly dead. Have a copy of an email from Friday:
*Nope, didn't work. Bah.
Still working in London. Company got taken over in late 2007 - I'm
still working in the same office but in a very different role.
Starting to get bored, though. Which leads nicely into:
I've applied to a couple of US grad schools for Fall 2009. Vaguely
planning to quit job this spring and take summer 2009 to do some
travelling, whatever happens with those applications. Any suggestions
for places to go?
Summer holiday this year was in the USA - a week with family in
Massachusetts, and also a few days in Ithaca with an old friend from
school who is now doing electronic engineering at Cornell. Great to
see everybody, even though my cousins make me feel elderly and
decrepit.
More recently, I've pulled a muscle in my thigh and can neither sit
down nor lie down without a lot of discomfort. ("Yes, we already knew
you were a pain in the arse...") Hurray for anti-inflammatory drugs!
Am planning to make the absolute most of this over Christmas, as
parental unit has an annoying habit of saving up chores for when I'm
around. Probably won't get away with it but it's worth a try*.
And yesterday I went to see "Eight lessons and carols for godless
people" with Robin Ince, Richard Dawkins, Ben Goldacre, Tim Minchin,
Josie Long and a great many others. It was fantastic fun and has
finally kicked me into feeling Christmassy, so:
Have a great holiday, and best wishes for the year to come!
