On the other hand, "the wrong place" is a few square kilometres of parkland and wetland nature reserve, rather than housing. The water's gone down considerably - the strandline is about a foot above current water levels - so the system is doing its job of smoothing out surges before sending water downstream.
There is a tidal bore on the Great Ouse, but the river isn't tidal here (or for a long way east), and there are no large bores this year anyway, so that should be OK...
