Dec. 5th, 2007 09:55 pmRowan jelly all gone. Woe. On the other hand the mug it was in is finally back in general circulation.
It was good. Must make some more next year.
(Did I give the recipe when I mentioned making it? Don't remember, so: Take some ripe rowan berries along with some crab-apples. Slice the apples, boil them all up with enough water, crush vigourously with a fork or other implement and boil some more. Drip or squeeze through muslin into a jug, rinse pan, transfer juices back to pan. Boil gently till reduced by two-thirds or more, and throw in some sugar to taste. When it's done, stick it in a clean pan or tray or mug or jar, cover, and let cool.
It is done when it reaches very soft ball - say 111 C, because it's a nice number. I might add a crushed juniper berry next time.)
