...I think this has displaced The Lancashire Witches as the finest bad novel I have read this year. I particularly liked the way every single male hero was anti-clerical, in a novel set in Spain some time before the Reformation. Also the diabolus ex machina. Also the heavy-handed eroticism, mostly at right angles to the actual erotic: see above.
